Dr. Jerrie Bascome McGill

The Reverend Doctor Jerrie L. Bascome McGill is part of the ministerial team at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church and serves the congregation in various capacities. Dr. McGill has a life-long interest in women around the world and African American women in particular. Other priorities include social justice issues and the state of the world's children. A current focus is learning about transformation in individuals and institutions.

Dr. McGill spent the major portion of her professional career in the field of public education --- working in Dayton area public schools and universities. She was the first woman to serve as superintendent of the Dayton Public Schools. She is currently completing a year at Payne Theological Seminary as the Associate Dean of Academic Services.

Dr. McGill continues to serve her community in a variety of capacities. She is a member of the NAACP, the National Council of Negro Women, the National Urban League and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She serves on the Executive Board of the Interdenominational Women's Ministerial Alliance and on the boards of the Montgomery County Re-Entry Task Force; Samaritan Behavioral Health, Incorporated; and PowerNet of Dayton, Incorporated.

Dr. McGill holds degrees from Miami University, Michigan State University, the Ohio State University, and Payne Theological Seminary.

Dr. McGill and her husband, Charles, are parents of two grown children and a foster daughter. The have eight grandchildren.
