Student Arts, Media, Performance,
and Community Service Contest Guidelines

ELIGIBILITY

Open to students in grades K-12 residing in Kettering or Oakwood

Students may enter as individuals or as a group

Students may enter through their school, a community group or organization, a church group or simply as an individual

Competition will be within four grade groups: K-2, 3-5, 6-8,9-12

PRIZES

Prizes will be awarded in each age group - Exceptions include:

Community Service-- Grades 3-12 only

Short Video/Film-- Grades 6-12 only

Judging will cover all categories of entries

RULES FOR ENTRIES

Entries must relate to Dr. King’s life or teachings or vision.

Any work too large to submit with entry blank, should be represented photographically

Performances, Presentations, Recitations must not exceed 5 minutes of live presentation

Visual Arts includes but is not limited to:

Drawings, Paintings

Digital Photography, Computer Generated Art, Digital Design

Needlework, handcrafts

Sculpture

Written Expression includes but is not limited to:

Essay, story, report

Original poetry

Original song lyrics

Speeches

Performing Arts includes but is not limited to:

Singing

Instrument

Acting

Dancing

Dramatic reading

Enter on DVD or VHS tape.

Community Service or Project

Written report of service or project

Video report of service or project
